My husband of 13 years abused me and my kids this song says it all
This video was hard for me to watch as a kid with an alcoholic step dad who hurt my mom 🙁 yrs of such sad times, then left when I was 20 and then she died when I was 21 🙁 But 20 yrs into the future the song still brings a year to my eye. I have a wonderful God fearing man who doesn't drink and would never hurt me or our kids ❤️ My mom would be proud and happy. I blamed her as a teen I think, but now I know she did what she had to do to etc to survive.

My mother was a victim of domestic violence in which I was collateral damage when he had it with her. I remember watching this video over and over when I was 17 and it still gets to me to this day. Any man that beats their wife deserves a hot spot in hell to rott.

I heard this one on the radio at work back in the old days. I never knew what it was truly about. Martina sure is beautiful.
I'm not a huge fan of country music, but this is one of my favorite songs. I was raised in a domestic violence situation and always felt scared and alone. This song made me aware that it was more common than I thought, and helped me to emotionally process a lot of shit.

This song isn't only talking about LIES (in he world & those we tell ourselves) & the pain & death those lies bring. Note the song Amazing Grace at the beginning & the "white dove", which in the bible represents God's Holy spirit & but also how over two thousand years ago, a stone was rolled away & Jesus got up out of the grave & declared OUR INDEPENDENCE DAY & one day ALL sin & injustice will have a day of reckoning.
I love 90s country music because the genre fully embraced rock n roll that decade. I think a lot of it has to do with the artists were fans of the genre and rock was still very popular back then in various forms (hair metal first then grunge as well as punk and light rock). The genre hasn't really changed that much since then; it's still guitar heavy and has rockabilly at it's center currently.

This could have been me,I felt so trapped. First as a child growing up in a abusive family,then later while married to my abusive husband,but I finally escaped four years ago. I'm so glad I didn't succeed in taking my life. I live alone now with my dogs and cat off grid in my airstream in the middle of nowhere and I love it. The freedom to live without all the judgement and abuse is so freeing. I feel like I can breathe. Which I actually can,my asthma is gone,threw away the inhalor And I have learned that I am so strong I can tackle anything that comes my way. The PTSD isn't crippling any more,in fact I go days and even weeks now without an anxiety attack. It's amazing how stress can make a person so sick. Thank you Jesus for giving me the strength to live🙏💪💪

I heard this song many years ago, but did not understand the courage and strength Martina had to record this. It is truly unbelievable that she made this song, and from reading comments, how many people she affected. It isn't popular for an artist to take on this type of task, but she did it. I don't know why, but knowing now what the song means, it literally brings me to tears. For someone as beautiful and talented and famous as Martina to take this path is amazing. She is an angel. If one day we live in a wonderful world of no domestic violence or spousal abuse, I have no doubt Martina will have played some part in that. Not only giving strength to the abused, but perhaps giving pause to the abusers.
